Join us as we kick off Greening Together with the following events, hosted throughout Mercer County in participating communities for our joint celebration of Earth Week. From stream cleanups to tree plantings, to bike rides, to celebrating barn swallows, and planting potatoes, there’re a myriad of ways to celebrate and contribute!
9am – Colonial Lake Cleanup (Lawrence) Join Sustainable Lawrence and The Watershed Institute at the 16th Annual Stream Cleanup to remove trash, litter, and debris from Colonial Lake. Pre-registration is required. (learn more) Colonial Lake Drive, Lawrence.
9am – Drexel Woods Shabakunk Stream Cleanup (Lawrence) Join Sustainable Lawrence and The Watershed Institute at the 16th Annual Stream Cleanup to remove trash, litter, and debris from the Shabakunk Creek at Drexel Woods. Pre-registration is required. (learn more) 505 Drexel Avenue, Lawrence.
9am – Annual Hightstown Stream Cleanup and Arbor Day Celebration (Hightstown) Join the Hightstown Environmental Commission and The Watershed Institute in their annual cleanup at Hightstown Memorial Park. 9am – Hightstown Paper Shredding Event (9 AM-12 noon) (Highstown) in the public parking lot at Hightstown Memorial Park. Shred-It will be providing secure document destruction free of charge. Bring your shreddable paper for recycling!
9am – Etra Lake Park Stream Cleanup (East Windsor) Join The Watershed Institute at the 16th Annual Stream Cleanup to remove trash, litter, and debris from Etra Lake in the surrounding Park (Pre-registration is required. (Learn more) Etra Lake Park, East Windsor, NJ
10am – Potato Planting at Howell Living History Farm, (Mercer County Parks) (learn more) (70 Woodens Lane, Hopewell Twp.)
10am – Tour of Pollinator/Rain Gardens (West Windsor)
10am | 12pm |2pm – Family-friendly bicycle rides at the Trolley Line Trail (West Windsor)
(April 23 or 24: Native Plants/Rain Garden Presentation by a Naturalist at West Windsor Community Park)
12 noon – Hightstown Tree Planting (Hightstown) Join the Hightstown Environmental Commission in celebration of Arbor Day with a tree planting in Association Park.
12 noon – 6 pm – Tree Sapling Giveaway (Princeton) The Princeton Shade Tree Commission will be giving out for free approximately 400 tree seedlings provided by the NJ Forest Service. The minimum 6” bare root seedlings will be of several difference species. Hinds Plaza, adjacent to the Princeton Public Library.
1pm – Tree Walk at Cadwalader Park (Trenton) Ellerslie Museum is sponsoring a WALK IN THE PARK with historian David Bosted through this urban landscape of trees, shrubs and other significant plantings. This park was created as part of a larger vision by the renowned designer Frederick Law Olmsted, whose 200th birthday is being celebrated. There will also be an exhibit about the park at the Ellerslie.
1pm – Barn Swallow Celebration at Howell Living History Farm (Hopewell Township) Join the County Naturalist for a close up look at these fascinating birds. (Learn more) 70 Woodens Lane, Hopewell Twp.
