A home’s hot water system accounts for almost 20% of the annual energy use, so that’s a natural area to focus on. Below is a short list of ways to get you started. You’ll find a longer list of ideas here:https://happyhiller.com/blog/water-heater-tips-save-money-energy/

No Cost EE Tips

  1. Adjust your hot water heater to 120o F.
  2. Use less hot water.

Take shorter showers

Don’t run the dishwasher for a partial load (or use the small load setting).

Use cold water when you do laundry.

If you have an old dishwasher or clothes washer, consider replacing them with newer models that use a lot less water.

And if your hot water heater is old, you definitely want to replace it with a more efficient system.  Find helpful product information here: https://www.energystar.gov/products/water_heaters
